Let's Talk About Six...

I think we last had a discussion post in June, so we're well overdue for another. (As ever, if anyone else wants to start one, go right ahead.)

I commented in previous discussion posts that One and Two lagged behind the other Doctors in terms of stories on Teaspoon, but that just isn’t true anymore… it’s Six that’s now possibly the least-written Doctor. Funnily enough, I was thinking we should talk Six next anyhow…

While Six’s isn’t my favourite era on TV, there’s still plenty I like about it (and him), and some fun characters introduced (The Rani, Sil, Glitz), the audios and comics gave us Evelyn and Frobisher among others, and he’s wonderfully technicoloured. Personally, I always find writing Six is the most fun a person can have doing fanfic. He’s loud, loves cats and words and he’s very much the Doctor whether you like it or not.

So what Six-era stories would people like to see? Any crossovers that would work best with him? One-off characters or companions you feel should be explored further? Something else?

As ever, to kick things off, here be a mix of weird, wonderful and oddly sensible prompts pulled from the random Pairing Generator.

thanks, i'll be sure to have a look. watching a show with so much past can be great but very confusing to the newcomer!

i've only read a few pages do far (damn you over enthuastic migraine!) but i have to say i really like what i've read. he's written and drawn it well, it's easy to catch on to who's who, without much other knowledge.

and hopefully he'll kill 2 birds with one stone and explain this grandaughter to me and rose at the same time!

Rich never gives Susan an explanation so I'll give you one. She's the Doctor's granddaughter! During his first incarnation he stole the TARDIS and escaped Gallifrey with her (reasons unknown, other family unknown.) They landed on Earth in the 60s, in Foreman's Junk Yard. His granddaughter took the alias of Susan Foreman and he just remained the Doctor. She was intrigued by human culture and entered high school, amazing her teachers with her science knowledge. Two of these, Barbara Wright and Ian Chesterton, became concerned about Susan's home life and followed her to the junkyard. They confront the Doctor about her living conditions and force themselves onto the TARDIS. While they're still boggling the Doctor decides to teach them a lesson in meddling and kidnaps them into space. His piloting skills being laughable he wasn't able to take them home so they, and Susan, became his first traveling companions. Susan eventually leaves when she falls in love with a human man of the future and Ian and Barbara make their own way back to Earth. The Doctor decides he loves seeing the Universe with others and collects more companions. And so it begins...

As for Rose, she was his first companion after the Doctor was nearly destroyed by the Time War. He was utterly traumatized by events (his own destruction of Gallifrey for one) and she helped him. They bonded deeply. Probably they became lovers. Anyway, Nine and Ten certainly love her.

Hope that helps! Any more questions just ask.

hee, thanks for that, i feel like a gap in my knowledge wall has been filled. it made me laugh that in 50 years of screen time the doctor's MO doesn't seem to have changed: find human, drag human into danger, take human travelling, fail ot return human at the right time!

susan certainally give me a different perspective on him destroyuing gallifrey (i know he was pretty much exiled, but he could have had a whole family there) and his willingness to do domestic for amy and rory in their current hun (i'll leave it vague for anybody who hasn't seen the recent episodes). this owuld be a perfect time to brin susan back for a cameo, but i guess they assume only the die hard fans or those who were around when it started would know about her.

thanks for the help, it's always fun to earn new whovian stuff and fill in the blanks. now i must gt my popcorn and coke and any left over dalek cookies (you've got to love baking parents) in time for the airing!!!!! wooohoooo!!!
