Era (if any): Classic Who (Third, Sixth Doctor Eras)
Characters/Pairings (if any): The Doctor (3rd), The Doctor (6th), Josephine Grant, Peri Brown
Plot Bunny Summary: The Third Doctor and Jo investigate a group of Silurians that happen to be in the same place the Sixth Doctor and Peri are trying to have a holiday.
Any Other Notes: I got the idea from the scene in Timelash where Peri says she has seen pictures of Jo Grant and I thought it would be great if they met.

Era: Classic Who (Second Doctor era)
Characters/Pairings: Victoria Waterfield, Zoe Heriot, Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon
Plot Bunny Summary: Victoria & Zoe somehow get to share an adventure with the Doctor & Jamie. I don't really have any plot to suggest beyond that idea, except that Victoria & Zoe would become immediate friends (and allies in teasing Jamie) and the Doctor would find it all very amusing.
Any Other Notes: I got the idea after seeing Deborah Watling, Wendy Padbury & Frazer Hines together at a convention, and their dynamic is so funny & adorable just like Victoria, Zoe & Jamie would be if they were all together, and I just know there's a fun story there, but for the life of me I can't come up with it.

It must be time for another discussion post. After all, it's been at least a year and a half, and we hadn't even got through all the Doctors - and now we've got another one! Doesn't time fly, even when you're not having fun? More seriously, your terminally errant mod has finally got to grips with some things that were getting in the way & hopefully should at least be able to post more regular discussions again. In the meantime, the comm is still, as ever, open for the donating of prompts and writing of fic for them.

Anyway, more of that anon, for now, we're here to talk about the Seventh Doctor! From lovable clown to dark manipulator and all things in between, he had a TV run that was cut short, but an extended life in other media, especially the New Adventures, and there's plenty to play with.

So, what Seventh Doctor fics would we like to see exist? Are you after more Ace, feel that Mel never gets a chance to shine, or missing Chris and Ros, or Doctor-era Benny? Can there ever be enough Hex, Raine, or Elizabeth Klein for your liking? Got a few plotty ideas for adventures Seven ought to have had, or a love for guest characters of the era? Which other era's Doctors/companions/villains would you like to see Seven meet? Share them here! You never know - sometimes magical things happen...

As for me, I love all things Seven and Ace and could never be sorry with more of them, and it'd be fun to see them encounter Twelve and Clara. How about everyone else?

And in the time-honoured tradition, here's a few suggestions from the Random Pairing Generator to kick things off:

Era: multi-era
Characters/Pairings: Jenny Flint, Jenny (the Doctor's daughter), and Jenny (resistance fighter girl befriended by Barbara in 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth')
Plot Bunny Summary: There've been several characters called Jenny, and I can't help thinking that they could totally have an adventure together. I don't have any idea how they would end up meeting, but they should save the world, and there should be much ass-kicking, and general girl-power awesomeness.
Any Other Notes: I realize not as many people have seen Classic Who, so if anybody wanted to do just Paternoster Jenny and Doctor's Daughter Jenny saving the world, that would be great too!

Era: Fifth Doctor
Characters/Pairings: Tegan & Nyssa
Plot Bunny Summary: Tegan and Nyssa have to pose as a married couple.
Any Other Notes: Over the years there have been various fics that shipped Nyssa/Tegan. What I don't recall seeing is one where they aren't a couple, but have to act as if they were. Perhaps someone they meet thinks they're married, and they have to go along with the pretence for complicated Universe-saving reasons. A present-day or near-future Earth setting would also mean Tegan had to handle Nyssa's unfamiliarity with Earth while struggling with a few decades' worth of culture shock.
thisbluespirit: (DW - Eight)
[personal profile] thisbluespirit
Time for another discussion post!

This time it's the Eighth Doctor and his era, probably the strangest in DW - he stands as a bridge between Doctor Who Old and New, not quite one or the other and for a Doctor who only had one brief outing, his separate adventures in different media cover quite a huge period with many characters, most of them equally worthy of fic.

And that's even before we get to New Who's burdening this seemingly most light-hearted of Doctors with the horror of the Time War off-screen and the opportunities that presents for creative fans...

What fic (or other fanworks) are you wanting to see more of for Eight and his era? Any more Eight in general, ships, companions, crossovers, genres - what do you think? (Don't forget any ideas shared here will get linked back to the masterpost and included in the selection for Prompt of the Month, so you never know - sometimes Stuff Happens...)

As ever, to kick everything off, here's a motley selection of ideas from the Random Pairing Generator (I think I've managed to get a reasonable selection across the TVM, Big Finish, the EDAs and the DWM comic strips):

Era (if any): Three, Four, Eight, Ten, Eleven
Characters/Pairings (if any): Liz Shaw, Harry Sullivan, Grace Holloway, Martha Jones, Rory Pond-Williams
Plot Bunny Summary: The Five Actual Doctors (Well, Four Doctors And A Lizard Nurse). Which is to say: I just now found out, from this excellent but mildly heartbreaking tribute vid for Caroline John, that Liz Shaw had a degree in medicine. And promptly went "omg YOU were the first actual-doctor companion? I never knew!" So I rounded up all the medically-trained people who have worked with the Doctor (that I could remember; additions heartily welcomed!) and, um... can't actually think of anything to do with them. Therefore, TO STRAYBUNNIES! *flails nobly* XD
Any Other Notes: Um, I think that sums it up?
thisbluespirit: (dw - Four)
[personal profile] thisbluespirit
Looking at the masterlist of fics so far, I can see that only one Doctor hasn't had any fic written for him via this comm (well, other than a couple of splendiferous multi-era fics) - and would you believe it's the Old Skool favourite, Four?

So, what Fourth Doctor, or Four-era, stories would you like to see? Is there just not enough Leela fic in the world (I'd say not) or you can't get enough Four/Romana (both of the splendid chapesses, of course), you'd like to see a little more Hinchcliffe horror gen fic, Harry, Sarah and the Doctor adventuring forever, or...?

In the now-traditional manner of these discussion posts I went to consult the oracle of the Random Pairing Generator, and came up with a selection of Fourth-Doctor flavoured prompts:

Era (if any): First Doctor, Fourth Doctor
Characters/Pairings (if any): Four, Leela, any villains, the Celestial Toymaker
Plot Bunny Summary: En route to somewhere in the galaxy, the Celestial Toymaker forces the TARDIS to land in an arena. The Celestial Toymaker appears to Four and Leela and tells the Doctor and his companion that they must defeat pairings of the Doctor's other foes to "win" the game.
Any Other Notes: I was thinking the Toymaker's game would be similar to The Hunger Games--each participant has a specialized weapon and there are two characters per team. (Also, you don't have to have 24 players in the Toymaker's game.) And I'd love to see the setting not be similar to THG as well (namely a futuristic North America). Feel free to make any other deviations from how the actual Hunger Games are structured in the book/movie.

Era (if any): any Doctor
Characters/Pairings (if any): any character/pairing

Plot Bunny Summary:
I've never had a plot bunny bite me this hard before and this is the only place I can think to leave it. It's kind of crackish and came up after watching Matilda the Musical in London.

In all three versions of Matilda-book,movie,musical-at the end, Matilda's parents have to leave in a hurry, and Matilda ends the book leaving with Miss Honey. My thought was, what if instead of dodgy business dealings/the mob/whatever that caused them to leave, the Doctor had a hand in that instead.

Double points if there's a scene with him and Matilda.

Triple extra points if it's the Seventh Doctor, who I had in mind.
Any Other Notes: I'd love to see this as I have great bunny spawning ability, but little writing skills.
[identity profile] derekmetaltron.livejournal.com
Typical. You wait ages for one new bunny and then four hop into view all at once! Given my love for some of these ideas it will be hard to part with them but I feel those with better creative process and actual free time can use these well. To the Bunnies!

Era (if any): Second Doctor
Characters/Pairings (if any): Second Doctor, Jamie, Victoria
Plot Bunny Summary: The Doctor and Jamie must rescue Victoria from an unwelcome marriage.
Any Other Notes: This story line came to me in a dream a couple of years ago; it was set in modern-day Los Angeles, was the climax of an intricate plot arc involving Cybermen and Ice Warriors, and had Victoria fleeing through the streets in her wedding dress. But those details are strictly optional.

Era (if any): Fourth Doctor
Characters/Pairings (if any): Leela, the Brigadier
Plot Bunny Summary: She's an independent warrior woman from the future who likes to stab things. He's an old-fashioned military man from the seventies (or possibly the eighties) who likes to shoot things. Both of them like to blow things up. They fight crime.
Any Other Notes: I just really want to see these two team up, fighting crime or making fun of the Doctor or anything. I imagine they'd clash at first, but at the end of the day they'd totally be bros.

Era (if any): Anything EXCEPT Three, Four, Ten, and Eleven
Characters/Pairings (if any): Sarah Jane/any of the Doctors she DIDN'T get to travel with, particularly One, Two, Five, or Six. (Okay, she got to meet three of those in 'The Five Doctors,' but she didn't really get to know them.)
Plot Bunny Summary: Most of the Sarah Jane/Doctor She Didn't Meet fic I've seen has been with Nine, Eight, or Seven--who are awesome, and I love them. But I wonder how that relationship would work with the other Doctors?
Any Other Notes: I'd be particularly interested in Five/Sarah Jane, since the executives did ask Lis Sladen to return to the show with Five (she said no in favor of getting "K-9 and Company"). Also, despite my use of "/", I'd be totally happy to see friendship fic too.

Era (if any): First Doctor
Characters/Pairings (if any): David/Susan, Doctor(s)?, any other characters you want
Plot Bunny Summary: I love fairy-tale metaphors, and Susan with her one shoe at the end just cries out for a Cinderella re-telling.
Any Other Notes: In addition to all the variations of the story itself, there's also this potentially useful American (possibly other countries as well, I just heard it here) jumping rope rhyme: "Cinderella/ Dressed in yella/ Went upstairs to kiss her fella/ Made a mistake/ Kissed a snake/ How many doctors did it take?"

Mods, could I have some tags for Susan and David, please?

Here's an idea from [livejournal.com profile] narwhale_callin. Neither she nor [livejournal.com profile] dragonofmemory feels able to tackle it, and I know I can't, but someone out there needs to try:

"...pirate!Three roving about the Caribbean. The scenario I'm picturing is accidentally-fobwatched!Three thinking he's a pirate, somehow escaping UNIT and stealing a ship to rove about the Lesser Antilles with some random guys he shanghais from the street, being pursued by an extremely exasperated Brigadier and the UNIT crew on a UNIT ship that they don't really have the funding for, and of course encountering Spanish-pirate!Master and having epic sea battles because English pirates very much don't like Spanish pirates." (Inspiration was, in great measure, Jon Pertwee's album of salty sea shanties, "Songs for Vulgar Boatmen.")
[identity profile] daystarsearcher.livejournal.com
Username: daystarsearcher
Era (if any): Three and/or Four
Characters/Pairings (if any): Sarah Jane, Liz, Jo, possibly Three or Four as well
Plot Bunny Summary: Like the subject line says, I just finished reading this history of Nancy Drew's authors. And it is so very, very clear to me that Sarah Jane traveled back in time to the 1920s and served as the inspiration for Nancy Drew. (Actually, now that I think about it, LIz isn't a half-bad candidate either, if you focus on the demeanor and style more than the crime-solving. So maybe Sarah Jane would be the boyish, adventurous George? And Jo totally could've been the giggly, goodhearted inspiration for Bess.)
Any Other Notes: Also, Harriet Stratemeyer (head of the syndicate that published Nancy Drew) has definite parallels to Jo Grant, with the privileged background (and accompanying blindspots) and the can-do attitude and the desire for everyone just to be nice and get along. And Mildred Wirt (the original ghostwriter) was a fiercely independent journalist, clever and proud and hard-working and filled to the brim with gumption--she basically was Sarah Jane. So maybe the story could be more linear, about Jo or Sarah meeting these women in the seventies, and being inspired by them.

some ideas

[livejournal.com profile] lost_spook recommended that I post here some time ago, but I was feeling a bit silly. So, here (finally) are some things I wish I could write, but know I never will...

Username: ravenskyewalker
Characters/Pairings: Third Doctor/Liz Shaw
Plot Bunny Summary: The Doctor and Liz experiment with Time Lord/human sex out of scientific curiosity. (He might be feeling a bit lonely and bored in exile, your choice.)

Username: ravenskyewalker
Characters/Pairings: Third Doctor/Liz Shaw/Brigadier
Plot Bunny Summary: I know I'm not the only one who likes the idea of the Doctor, Liz, and the Brigadier as a threesome (especially after seeing the "Silurians" promo shot of them in the barn, with hay); I've seen fic like that out there, just not enough. (But then, these three appeal to me enough that, even if there were more fic, it probably still wouldn't be enough. These things happen...)
[identity profile] derekmetaltron.livejournal.com
Another of these discussion posts, this time regarding the creator of the Daleks. Now I often find with myself wondering whether one can consider either the Master or Davros to be the Doctor's most personal enemy. Most would probably veer for the former but I do find myself with several of the Doctors (particularly Four and Six) thinking that Davros is probably their most fearsome enemy for their particular incarnation.

As such you'd think that like the Master, Davros would have a fair number of fics to his name given his appearances in the Classic Series, his return in the New Series, various Big Finish stories including his origins being told in the mini-series I, Davros... However, Davros actually has few fanfictions, and it's rare that he is the central character in any case. Over on Whofic Davros appears as a optional search character for the Fourth, Fifth, Seventh and Eighth Doctor catagories, as well as in the Multi-Era and Other Era sections. Yet no sign for Six, the Doctor with which he probably had the best verbal intereaction with (seriously, watch Revelation and listen to Davros)? Or in the Tenth Doctor section for his return in Journey's End? Even on the sections he does appear the stories in total come to two pages at the most (and many are written by one writer).

So to combact this I propose a set of prompts all centred on Davros and the various characters connected to him - the Daleks of course, but also ones like Nyler, Lytton, his lover Shan, his mother and sister as heard in I, Davros... Here's your chance to give out some Davros prompts! Here's a couple prompts taken from the Random Pairing Generator to start you off...

I think we last had a discussion post in June, so we're well overdue for another. (As ever, if anyone else wants to start one, go right ahead.)

I commented in previous discussion posts that One and Two lagged behind the other Doctors in terms of stories on Teaspoon, but that just isn’t true anymore… it’s Six that’s now possibly the least-written Doctor. Funnily enough, I was thinking we should talk Six next anyhow…

While Six’s isn’t my favourite era on TV, there’s still plenty I like about it (and him), and some fun characters introduced (The Rani, Sil, Glitz), the audios and comics gave us Evelyn and Frobisher among others, and he’s wonderfully technicoloured. Personally, I always find writing Six is the most fun a person can have doing fanfic. He’s loud, loves cats and words and he’s very much the Doctor whether you like it or not.

So what Six-era stories would people like to see? Any crossovers that would work best with him? One-off characters or companions you feel should be explored further? Something else?

As ever, to kick things off, here be a mix of weird, wonderful and oddly sensible prompts pulled from the random Pairing Generator.

Era (if any): Classic, New
Characters/Pairings (if any): Fifth Doctor, Martha Jones
Plot Bunny Summary: Five and Martha (or a crossover where Martha meets someone like Tristan or Campion)
Any Other Notes: [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler directed me to a trailer for UK:L&O which now features both Peter Davison and Freema Agyeman. A few seconds was enough to convince me that there ought to be Five and Martha fic, as the two clearly worked so well together. A brief bit of poking around did not reveal the existence of pretty much any fic with them both. Something must be done! Or, since I'm not fussy and love a good crossover, a fic where Martha meets one of Peter's other characters (especially ones I know fairly well, like Tristan or Campion) would do just as well.

Era (if any): any
Characters/Pairings (if any): Melanie Bush, any of the Doctors
Plot Bunny Summary: "I'll send you a postcard!...I'll put it in a bottle and throw it into space! It'll reach you...in time." Mel's postcard finally reaches the Doctor.
Any Other Notes: My first inclination was to have one of the Doctors after Seven get the card, but there is nothing to prevent timey-wimey shenanigans from making it get intercepted by one of the earlier ones. Or for multiple postcards to go to multiple Doctors.

Era (if any): Seventh Doctor
Characters/Pairings (if any): Ace/Girl of the Week, Seven if you like
Plot Bunny Summary: I love Ace. I love her girls of the week. The world needs more Ace/Girl of the Week awesomeness, whether out-and-out femslash or just them being fantastic teams together.

Some ideas

Aug. 18th, 2011 06:24 pm
[identity profile] dketcham.livejournal.com
1. Ainley Master vs. The Valeyard. One thing I wished there was more of in the Ultimate Foe was interaction between the Master and the Valeyard. So how about one where it's just them, no Doctor (save for the Valeyard.) The Master stumbles onto some plot by the Valeyard, whose plan threatens a plant (maybe Earth) and the Master resolves to ruin it, solely to prove that he's the Valeyard's better.

2. Return to Androzani: a sequel to the Caves of Androzani, with more corporate intrigues. My only real ideas for this is a) a group calling themselves the Sons of Sharaz Jak, wearing similar outfits to his, and believing he was fighting Morgus for environmental reasons. Their leader claims to be a still-living Sharaz Jek, but is eventually revealed to be Jek's Salvateen android; and b) due to the traumatic regeneration, the Doctor fears returning to Andorzani minor, and who wants to leave it as soon as possible,.

3. Dimensions in Time novelization: there are fan novelizations for Douglas Adams and Eric Saward's Daleks, but I'd like to see one of Dimensions in Time. This could go in several directions: a serious rewrite of Dimensions in Time, turning it into an epic; or a more comedic style that just transcribes the event in a Terrance Dicks style.
