The Inspiration of Rassilon

Just a head's up to anybody still watching this community that I plan to import it to Dreamwidth presently. Given how many people are deleting their accounts at present, it's the only way to preserve past content. However, I've no intention to close down or delete the community here on LJ. Please let me know if you have any queries about that.

And while it is pretty quiet round here, I'd like to say that, as mod, I'm always around (on either side) and new prompts are always welcome - after all, you never know!

It must be time for another discussion post. After all, it's been at least a year and a half, and we hadn't even got through all the Doctors - and now we've got another one! Doesn't time fly, even when you're not having fun? More seriously, your terminally errant mod has finally got to grips with some things that were getting in the way & hopefully should at least be able to post more regular discussions again. In the meantime, the comm is still, as ever, open for the donating of prompts and writing of fic for them.

Anyway, more of that anon, for now, we're here to talk about the Seventh Doctor! From lovable clown to dark manipulator and all things in between, he had a TV run that was cut short, but an extended life in other media, especially the New Adventures, and there's plenty to play with.

So, what Seventh Doctor fics would we like to see exist? Are you after more Ace, feel that Mel never gets a chance to shine, or missing Chris and Ros, or Doctor-era Benny? Can there ever be enough Hex, Raine, or Elizabeth Klein for your liking? Got a few plotty ideas for adventures Seven ought to have had, or a love for guest characters of the era? Which other era's Doctors/companions/villains would you like to see Seven meet? Share them here! You never know - sometimes magical things happen...

As for me, I love all things Seven and Ace and could never be sorry with more of them, and it'd be fun to see them encounter Twelve and Clara. How about everyone else?

It's the grand dw_straybunnies Spring Challenge! It's still a little out-there, but since it proved such fun last time and everyone seemed to think we should do it again... here goes!

So, here are 12 as yet unadopted prompts. Anyone who writes any variation of any of them of any length gets a participation banner, and 2 points.

You get 2 further points for every extra story you write and 1 further point for any elements from any of the other prompts you incorporate into your fic.

So, basically, 2 points for writing, say Kate Stewart. If you write pirate!Kate battling the telepathic plants you get 4 points. 5 if she's been interrupted from her road trip in Bessie.

If you write twelve stories, or incorporate all twelve prompts into one fic, you win. (Mostly kudos, but there will certainly be a winner's banner, and I'll see if I can think of something else to offer.)

Given the odd mix of prompts, your fic can be as cracky as you wish. Or as serious - it's up to you! Feel free to put as wide an interpretation as you wish on the original prompt.

So if you're unsure about some of the characters, don't worry too much. It's mainly fun, so if you want to learn enough to have the Doctor mention - while running away from Maxil, under suspicion of tulip-theft - that it's a shame Leela isn't here, because she would have been handy, you'd still get at least half a point for it. Also, wide interpretation is wide - any Doctor in a pirate AU, a roadtrip in Bessie, or tackling St George and the Dragon will get you those prompts. If you can learn enough about the unknown characters via the powers of the internet, you can risk a quick cameo - this isn't a serious ficathon, or a gift exchange!

However, also don't be afraid to simply take one of the prompts and write perfectly straight fic. The original prompter will no doubt be delighted - and you may still win, as there's no guarantee anyone will write fic at all, let alone multiple fics!

The challenge will open on Monday 1st April and close on Sunday 28th April. (I won't close down the challenge officially until Mon 29th, so as long as it's still Sunday 28th in some time zone, somewhere, you're good.)

Additional rule: no more than 2 drabbles per person (you can write a 12 drabble set if you wish, but only the first 2 will earn you points for the prize). Also list fic, or a drabble or short poem that uses all the words of the prompts in some way will only get you the usual 2 points and a banner. This is merely in the interests of some rough attempts at fairness and not to discourage anyone from tackling the prompts in any way they feel inclined!

It's well past time for another discussion post!

This time, how about minor characters - one-off (or maybe two-off) guest characters you'd love to see more of? Given how many different worlds, times and places the Doctor has visited in the past fifty years, there are any number of great characters we saw only once in passing.

Which of those would you like to see fic for? Any ideas? For me, I confess, it's always the Classic Who guest characters I think about the most - after all, many of us lived with them for three, four or even six weeks back in the day. Prf. Amelia Rumford should have all the fic, Mrs Tyler too (she fights Death with table salt; how awesome is that?), Adam Colby, Cameca, Duggan, nearly everybody from Robots of Death, Litefoot & Jago (if they count now they've got their own BF series), the amazing Bambera and Ancelyn, and so many others. So many. How about everyone else? Who do you think ought to be picked up and explored more in fic?

(As for what counts as a minor character, it's hard to say - I'm going to leave it at "not a Doctor/companion/regular" and preferably "hasn't appeared more than twice", but don't worry about it too much. This comm takes any bunnies in and gives them a home till they can be adopted by a new and unwary owner.
