Gosh, look, it's a [livejournal.com profile] dw_straybunnies Prompt of the Month post! (Please don't faint, folks, sorry it's been so long.)

And it's typical - you wait half a year for a monthly prompt, and then three come along at once... Yes, I have selected three prompts at random this month. So, you can still take the widest possible interpretation on each (there could be several people writing a prompt, that's absolutely fine - the original prompt stays on the masterlist), you can mix and match between the prompts and/or even combine them all. And here they are:

* Any Meddling Monk fic (from [livejournal.com profile] derekmetaltron)

* Jack Harkness/Second Doctor/In the dark (Random prompt from the Second Doctor discussion post)

* Eight/Romana II (from [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1 in the spin-offs discussion post).

Rules of the challenge
Fics can be as short or as long as you like. Please post wherever you wish but link back to this post via the comments (or you can post comment!fic here - that's fine too). Other fanworks are equally welcome for the monthly challenges.

Bonus points for including as much of the original prompt(s) as possible, but this is a free-for-all, so there is plenty of room for interpretation (e.g. same prompt, but variation of characters etc.)

All participants will receive a banner. The challenge closes on Sunday 24th February.

Don't forget that all prompts are always open for the taking. You can find the Prompt Masterlist here.

Your errant mod returns, but this time I at least do finally have a discussion post. There will be updates and *gasp* even a Prompt of the Month for February. (And there has been fic lately, too! \o/) The holiday challenge will turn up - cunningly - at a different holiday, possibly even disguised as a ficathon. So, I am a neglectful mod, but I am listening and hope to be much better in 2013. (More when I have a proper update post in the next week or so.)

In the meantime, here's a chance for you to share some ideas and thoughts about the Ninth Doctor and his era. Have you got anything you've been dying to see somebody write? Ideas for him you've given up on for yourself? Minor characters, multi-era ideas or crossovers you think'd be perfect for him? Ships that aren't sailing fast enough for you?

Anyway, here's the place to share, discuss and maybe pick up some prompts and generate fic - who knows?

As ever, let's begin with some randomly generated prompts under the cut )

FAQ | Rules | Round One | Fills

[livejournal.com profile] unwhosual is a prompt comm for Doctor Who
intending to cover ships, spin-offs and crossovers
typically glossed over, that the fandom at large has
moved on from, or which nobody has thought to do
before. Membership is open and posting unmoderated,
and you can prompt as many ideas as you like,
and you can fill as many prompts as you like.

There's a Doctor Who friending meme going on here:

And the poll about what you'd like to see on [livejournal.com profile] dw_straybunnies is still open if you want to leave your thoughts. And I shall hopefully put up a discussion post before the weekend is out. Regarding the poll, most people seem to like the idea of the holiday challenge, as last year, so there will be one! Of some kind... Thanks, everyone!

Apologies, I seem to be the Worst Mod Ever currently. I'll try and see if I can actually manage some updates soon. (RL keeps eating me).

Anyway, I'm still here, so is the comm and it's always open for the putting down and picking up of prompts. I was having some thoughts about some things we could do. Would anyone be interested in any of the following?

[Poll #1882607]

I'll see about posting a discussion post this week as well. *mod sidles sheepishly away*

Era (if any): Third (see notes)
Characters/Pairings (if any): AU Third Doctor, AU The Brig
Plot Bunny Summary: The further adventures of Three & The Brig
Any Other Notes: In the Doctor Who Unbound range there are two audios (Sympathy for the Devil; Masters of War) featuring David Warner as an AU Third Doctor and Nick Courtney as an AU version of the Brig who resigned from UNIT when the Third Doctor doesn't arrive on Earth (as he did in Spearhead from Space). The Brig ends up travelling with the Doctor (and they have a Dalek adventure in Masters of War) - I'd like to see a further adventure (or more than one) featuring the pair.

ERA: Er, this is rather complicated. Ten era... sort of. Ten definitely features, though. The Timey-Whimey-ness of this request is headache inducing but stories that cause brain implosions timeline wise seem to be my favourite.

CHARACTERS:
Ten - Anytime before End of Time, or even some unsaid (or said) fix it. The author has full creative license.
Jack - After being made immortal. Actual point after in his personal history is up to the author
River - After she is "Professor" River Song is okay.
Amy & Rory, Brian Williams - After Dinosaurs on a Ship, before The Angels Take Manhattan

PAIRINGS:
Ten/River/Jack (OT3)
Amy/Rory

PLOT BUNNY SUMMARY:
I have this addiction to "After the Whump" whump like there is nothing else (can't you tell, lol?) and I'd like to see this scene laid out:

Ten has been critically injured up to the point of regenerating but for the sake of preserving the series timeline, he isn't going to. He's been injured critically, needs care, etc. River has been injured, but conscious enough to get them all into the medbay on the TARDIS, but too injured to do much else (maybe a leg injury or something to affect mobility), and as per usual Jack has died and come back but using Sahiya's methodology behind it when he comes back it's usually when consciousness can be supported and him out of immediate danger but it doesn't mean he isn't a bit banged up and is in need of TLC too.

River has pleaded to the TARDIS to take the three of them someplace safe, and someplace where friends can help them.

Considering it's River and the Doctor (and Jack), the TARDIS takes them to Amy and Rory and in Amy & Rory's timeline it's sometime after Dinosaurs on a Spaceship so an appearance by a concerned Brian Williams would be fantastic too.

OTHER NOTES:
I got the idea from Sahiya's absolutely incredible story here, which is where the idea came from. Not looking for a re-write of her story because then her story would lose it's charm. In fact, plot is entirely optional, but again, if the writer has an idea and runs with it I'm happy.

If the story has a plot, I'd like to request that the Doctor not be the one that solves it -- let him be laid up the entire time recovering. I would love to see a "The Companions team up to save the day!", particularly if it ends up being Brian doing the saving...

I am in desperate need for a whumpy piece to get me through writing the Legacy ;)

Apologies once again for lack of updates etc. (Hopefully rl will allow for some of those things some time soon).

This month's challenge is Romana I, in tribute to Mary Tamm. I wish I wasn't having to set another special theme again, but so it is. *sad*

The challenge closes on Sunday 26th August 2012.

I haven't set up a separate discussion post this time, but if people want to leave ideas and prompts and thoughts about Romana-related fic in the comments here, I will add prompts to the post for people to write:

This is a special Prompt of the Month, in honour of Liz Shaw (and Caroline John).

So, the prompt is 'Liz Shaw'. We collected some prompts and requests in the last post, and you'll find these under the cut, together with any existing ideas from the masterlist:

Liz Shaw fic prompts )

Rules of the challenge
Fics can be as short or as long as you like. Please post wherever you wish but link back to this post via the comments (if short enough and you want, comment!fic is fine).

Bonus points for including as much of the original prompt as possible, but this is a free-for-all, so there is plenty of room for interpretation (e.g. same prompt, but variation of character etc.)

Those taking part will receive banners.

The challenge closes on Sunday 22nd July 2012.

I will post a reminder before then.

And, also, I'll just add that I've not seen many tribute fics for Liz appearing on Teaspoon or the main DW comms... so it would be lovely if this comm managed to generate some.

Liz Shaw

I'm sure everyone here has heard the sad news about Caroline John, who played the very awesome Liz Shaw during the Third Doctor's era.

In tribute, [livejournal.com profile] dw_straybunnies will have a Prompt of the Month, and it'll be for Liz Shaw. We have one or two prompts in the masterlist, but if we round some up here, I'll include them all in the prompt post and we'll see if we can at least have a little bit more Liz in the world that way.

So, what fic would you like to see for Liz? Missing adventures from S7? Her career before or after the Doctor? Multi-era fics, or pairings you think would be great? Here is the place to share your ideas!

I think she was one of the most ideally placed companions for a return visit, so that's probably what I'd like to see now that it can (sadly) never happen for real. How about everyone else?

Era (if any): Three, Four, Eight, Ten, Eleven
Characters/Pairings (if any): Liz Shaw, Harry Sullivan, Grace Holloway, Martha Jones, Rory Pond-Williams
Plot Bunny Summary: The Five Actual Doctors (Well, Four Doctors And A Lizard Nurse). Which is to say: I just now found out, from this excellent but mildly heartbreaking tribute vid for Caroline John, that Liz Shaw had a degree in medicine. And promptly went "omg YOU were the first actual-doctor companion? I never knew!" So I rounded up all the medically-trained people who have worked with the Doctor (that I could remember; additions heartily welcomed!) and, um... can't actually think of anything to do with them. Therefore, TO STRAYBUNNIES! *flails nobly* XD
Any Other Notes: Um, I think that sums it up?
thisbluespirit: (dw - Four)
[personal profile] thisbluespirit
Looking at the masterlist of fics so far, I can see that only one Doctor hasn't had any fic written for him via this comm (well, other than a couple of splendiferous multi-era fics) - and would you believe it's the Old Skool favourite, Four?

So, what Fourth Doctor, or Four-era, stories would you like to see? Is there just not enough Leela fic in the world (I'd say not) or you can't get enough Four/Romana (both of the splendid chapesses, of course), you'd like to see a little more Hinchcliffe horror gen fic, Harry, Sarah and the Doctor adventuring forever, or...?

In the now-traditional manner of these discussion posts I went to consult the oracle of the Random Pairing Generator, and came up with a selection of Fourth-Doctor flavoured prompts:

Title: Plan B

Characters/Pairings: Adric, Nyssa, Tegan Jovanka, The Doctor (5th), The Master (Ainley), The TARDIS

Summary: "Castrovalva" AU: The Master kidnaps Nyssa instead of Adric for his Hadron web. Nyssa makes him pay for it.

Also more apologies - rl has been problematic lately & so I've been a bad mod. However, I didn't run the Prompt of the Month purposely last month (and won't again this month, either) as I plan to do another challenge in the summer, if people like the idea - the Christmas one was good fun & very productive. But I forgot to make a post to say so. Anyway, rest assured that the comm remains open for business as ever - please do leave prompts and pick up new ideas to write - our prompt list is always up for claiming!

I do hope to manage a couple of discussion posts, though, this month. I know, I've been a negligent mod...

Era (if any): First Doctor, Fourth Doctor
Characters/Pairings (if any): Four, Leela, any villains, the Celestial Toymaker
Plot Bunny Summary: En route to somewhere in the galaxy, the Celestial Toymaker forces the TARDIS to land in an arena. The Celestial Toymaker appears to Four and Leela and tells the Doctor and his companion that they must defeat pairings of the Doctor's other foes to "win" the game.
Any Other Notes: I was thinking the Toymaker's game would be similar to The Hunger Games--each participant has a specialized weapon and there are two characters per team. (Also, you don't have to have 24 players in the Toymaker's game.) And I'd love to see the setting not be similar to THG as well (namely a futuristic North America). Feel free to make any other deviations from how the actual Hunger Games are structured in the book/movie.

Plot Bunny Summary:
I've never had a plot bunny bite me this hard before and this is the only place I can think to leave it. It's kind of crackish and came up after watching Matilda the Musical in London.

In all three versions of Matilda-book,movie,musical-at the end, Matilda's parents have to leave in a hurry, and Matilda ends the book leaving with Miss Honey. My thought was, what if instead of dodgy business dealings/the mob/whatever that caused them to leave, the Doctor had a hand in that instead.

Double points if there's a scene with him and Matilda.

Triple extra points if it's the Seventh Doctor, who I had in mind.
Any Other Notes: I'd love to see this as I have great bunny spawning ability, but little writing skills.

It's well past time for another discussion post, and I thought I'd re-run the crossover one we had many moons ago, because time moves on and people discover ad new TV shows/books etc, and it is one of the delights of fan fiction, after all. Crossing fandoms is one thing that can only rarely be done by the sources themselves. And Doctor Who with its simple go-anywhere, anytime premise is built for the possibility more than most TV shows.

So, what crossover fanfic would you love to see? What is there not enough of, or not with the Doctor/companion you'd have gone for?

I'm with several other people I know in waiting for the first Downton Abbey/Doctor Who crossover. (Don't people realise that Violet is just waiting for her chance to fight off some aliens?)

What do you all think? (As ever, any suggestions in the comments below will be added to the ever-growing list of prompts.)
thisbluespirit: (dw - eleven)
[personal profile] thisbluespirit
Just a reminder that this month's prompt is still open until Sunday 25th March, and so far we have had no entries.

(No one wants a Sherlock crossover, or they've all been written? Even one with Six?)
