The Inspiration of Rassilon

I put Sgt Kennedy and Tilly in the ficlet generator. And amused as I was by the one where he turned bald, the one where a mouse killed him, and the one where they did Shakespeare, I plumped for this. Especially since the ending is ironic when one of the characters is Tilly:

Lost Lang Syne

Tilly sipped crossly at her drink and stood lost behind a test tube. She wasn't sure why she had come to this New Year's Eve party in the first place. She was no good at parties anyhow. They always made her feel khaki and she ended up like she was now, hiding and hoping nobody noticed how cold her back got when she was nervous.

Well, truth be told, Tilly knew very well why she was at the party: to see Sergeant Kennedy.

Ah, Sergeant Kennedy. Just the thought of him, the chance of a glimpse of his lonely hair made Tilly's heart beat like a scalded cat.

But tonight everyone was masked. Tilly peered stubbornly through the crowd, trying to guess which guest was Sergeant Kennedy. There, she thought, the man over by the alien gunge, the bossy one with the mouse mask. It had to be Sergeant Kennedy. No one else could look so determined, even in a mouse mask.

He began to walk Tilly's way and Tilly started to panic. What if he actually talked to Tilly?

Sergeant Kennedy came right up to Tilly and Tilly thought that she was going to faint.

"Hello," Sergeant Kennedy said kindly. "What are you doing over here all alone?"

"Oh, just looking at the tea," Tilly said and immediately wanted to die because that sounded so stubborn.

Just then, an impatient voice began to count down. "Ten ... nine ... eight ... seven ..."

Tilly's heart leapt. If they were together at midnight, that meant that Sergeant Kennedy might ...

"Happy New Year!"

Sergeant Kennedy swept Tilly into his arms, bent her in the grounds of UNIT HQ, and kissed Tilly sadly, slipping her the tongue and groping her elbow.

Tilly could hardly believe it. How wonderful! And now that it was after midnight, it was time to take their masks off. She reached out quietly and pulled Sergeant Kennedy's mask off his face. It was Sergeant Kennedy! "I knew it was you," Tilly said and took her own mask off.

"And it's ... you," Sergeant Kennedy said. "You know, I'm just going to go get some punch."

Tilly watched him go. He would be right back, Tilly was sure. Just as soon as he had his punch.

And then they would fall in love.

(I am not sure that Sgt Kennedy sounds at all impressed that it's Tilly. Plus, groping her elbow? Nice move. Anyway, even if he is, getting that punch is... oh dear, and it was all going so well... LOL)

(And, yes, I did put Nat and Tilly in it, but Tilly was v OOC, and had a navy knee, so I decided not to do that again.)
